July 1st, 2014
On Wednesday, May 21, 2014, the College of Liberal Arts held three separate commencement ceremonies for the first time, to better accommodate the many students and their families who want to celebrate this accomplishment of receiving their CSULB degree.
This year we had 2459 students walk in CLA’s graduation – the largest in our history. Dean David Wallace shook hands with every graduate, and took the College’s first official “graduation selfie.” Presiding over the ceremonies as Grand Marshals were three of CLA’S most distinguished faculty members: Victor Rodriguez from Chicano & Latino Studies; Norma Stoltz Chinchilla of Sociology/Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies; and Ken Green from Psychology.
We want to thank all of the faculty members who supported our students by attending the ceremonies and other department events to celebrate their graduates. We want to express our appreciation to the Faculty Marshals who helped during the ceremonies: Jennifer Asenas, Mary Caputi, Emma Daugherty, Sharon Downey, Malcolm Finney, Douglas Forasté, Cora Goldstein, Nancy Hall, Amy Heyse, Neil Hultgren, Kevin Johnson, Demetra Kasimis, Paul Laris, Sophia Pandya, Jennifer Reed, Heather Stephens, Kevin Wallsten, Jason Whitehead, Teri Yamada, and Kris Zentgraf.
And finally, we want to especially thank our CLA staff and student assistant volunteers. Roberta Bogart, Terie Bostic, Michael Byrd, Val Christian, Espie Contreras, Kimberly Davis, Cherie Dougan, Cerise Dragicevich, Chris Engler, Nicole Gregory, Harvey Hunt, Andrew Jefferson, Asia Lias, Monique Lopez, Joyce Morfe, Julie Ortiz, Jo Overton, Angela Perez, Lynda Stassi, and Jan Young. They worked tirelessly to bring the whole event together for our graduates on their big day.
Thank you all for your contributions to this culminating event in our academic year!
