Guest Lecture: "Growing Up Fast: The Rhetoric of Resilience among Inner City Neapolitan Girls"

Come join scholar Heather Loyd (Kansas State University) on Wedesday, March 19 as she presents her lecture titled “Growing Up Fast: The Rhetoric of Resilience among Inner City Neapolitan Girls” as part of the Language & Social Justice in Italy lecture series presented by the College of Liberal Arts Scholarly Intersections Initiative;  and the Departments of Anthropology, Linguistics, and Romance, German, Russian Languages & Literatures.

This lecture series explores the intersection of language teaching, learning, and writing with the study of political movements and minority/disadvantaged groups.

The scholars featured here have found in Italy’s changing demographics a rich site for the study of language as a marker of evolving social structures, institutions and practices. Their work will shed light on the Italian context as well as provide a stimulating lens through which to analyze parallel issues in contemporary American/Californian language politics.
