Colloquium: Dr. John Corvino on "The Definition of Marriage"

Screen Shot 2014-01-30 at 3.49.05 PMOn February 6, the Departments of Philosophy; Political Science; Religious Studies; Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies; and the Center for First Amendment Studies will sponsor a colloquium in which guest speaker Dr. John Corvino will discuss “The Definition of Marriage” and where same-sex marriage lies within political and social definitions of marriage.

Dr. John Corvino Prof. Corvino received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas – Austin. He is Chair of the Philosophy Department at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He is the author of Same Sex: the Ethics, Science, and Culture of Homosexuality (Rowman & Littlefield, 1997), Debating Same-Sex Marriage (co-authored with Maggie Gallagher, Oxford University Press, 2012) and What’s Wrong with Homosexuality? (Oxford University Press, 2013). Until 2011, his column “The Gay Moralist” appeared weekly at 365gay.com. His essays have appeared in The New York TimesThe New RepublicThe Los Angeles Times, The AdvocateSalon, and The Huffington Post.
