Hugh Wilford (HIST) Appears on BBC Radio Documentary “The Real George Orwell”

Hugh Wilford is one of four scholars/writers who appeared on the recent BBC Radio Documentary “The Real George Orwell: The Road to Nineteen Eighty-Four.” The documentary explores the historical background to the writing of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four. Click here to listen to the show.

Wilford is a professor in CSULB’s Department of History. His research interests include U.S. Intellectual History, History of the American Left, The CIA and the “Cultural Cold War,” and Americanization and Anti-Americanism. He received his B.A. from Bristol University and his Ph.D. from Exeter University. Wilford’s publications include The Mighty Wurlitzer: How the CIA Played AmericaThe U.S. Government, Citizen Groups, and the Cold War: The State-Private NetworkThe CIA, the British Left, and the Cold War: Calling the Tune?, and The New York Intellectuals: From Vanguard to Institution.
