The CSULB speech and debate team competes in local and regional tournaments from September through February preparing for the national championship tournaments in March and April. These tournaments offer competition in three different forensics genres: policy debate, parliamentary debate, and individual events.
Beach Forensics just finish competing in the 2007 national speech and debate tournaments where they competed against all major universities in the US including; Berkeley, Harvard, Northwestern, Emory, Stanford, and USC just to name a few. CSULB ranked in the top 20 universities in the USA in debate and top 10 in individual events resulting in over 25 individual awards.
The highlight of the national tournament season was CSULB’s brother/sister team of Jeremy and Ciera Carson winning the National Championship in Duo Interpretation. Duo interp is an oral interpretation event involving two forensics competitors performing a two character scene from a play or a movie. This is the first time in national tournament history that a brother/sister team has won the national championship in duo interp.
In the last six years Beach Forensics has brought home six national championships in speech and debate events. Please stop by the trophy case in the first floor of the Macintosh Humanities Building to view the many trophies won at the national championship tournaments.
