Emeriti at Getty Museum in Malibu California

Emeriti Adventure To Getty Villa Malibu Museum

The annual College of Liberal Arts Emeriti Faculty Spring Event took place on Thursday, March 29, 2007 with a group excursion to the newly renovated Getty Villa Malibu museum. This year’s event was well attended with a total of 55 guests. All boarded the bus at the CSULB campus for the one hour journey to Malibu. Upon arrival, guests explored the museum independently and later reconvened for a group lunch at the Getty Villa Picnic Area.

The Getty Villa Malibu originally was a recreation of the Villa Dei Papiri in Herculaneum, Italy. During the renovation process, Boston-based architects Rodolfo Machado and Jorge Silvetti adhered to the Roman country motif, but modified the structure by building the spectacular open-air Entry Pavilion that leads visitors through a scenic pathway to the museum. The detailed landscaping of the garden area not only sets the tone for the museum, but it also creates a relaxing and welcoming environment for visitors. The Getty Villa Malibu remains an educational center and museum dedicated to the exploration of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome and Etruria.

The College of Liberal Arts hosts two annual Emeriti Faculty events; one in the fall and one in the spring. Each event is decided and agreed upon by members of the Retired/FERP Faculty Steering Committee at their summer planning meeting. The 2007-2008 event details will be announced at the close of this summer’s planning meeting, which will be held at the end of July.
