I am happy to greet you this spring and share with you just some of the news about our new programs and stories about faculty and students. We are pleased that The College of Liberal Arts Scholars Program has been reinvigorated by on-going support from alumni and friends. The Liberal Arts Scholars Program is a unique scholarship designed to encourage and assist outstanding Liberal Arts majors by providing financial support for collaborative projects between students and faculty members. Each undergraduate student selected for support will receive a $2,000 scholarship, and each graduate student recipient will receive a $3,000 scholarship. These funds will be used to underwrite the costs of the proposed faculty research collaboration and provide the student with direct financial assistance.
We want to thank all of our wonderful alumni for their gifts over the past few months. Your response to our Beach Fund and gifts designated to specific departments, programs and projects have been heartfelt and invaluable to our students and the College. We are especially grateful to Dr. Robert Harman, Emeriti Professor of Applied Anthropology, for his generous gift in establishing the Robert C. Harman Endowed Fund for Applied Anthropology. In addition, Dr. Luster Hauth, Emeriti Professor of Communication Studies, donated his personal book collection along with a monetary donation to endow the Luster E. Hauth Rhetoric and Public Address Library Collection within the Department of Communication Studies.
Aside from our Emeriti faculty members, friends of CLA have provided invaluable gifts to faculty and students. We would like to thank Irving “Irv” Saratoff for his generous estate gift which will support student scholarships within the Department of History and the Jewish Studies Program. We are equally grateful to Beverly and George August for their generous gift to create the George and Beverly August Student Award within the Jewish Studies Program.
Again, thank you for your continued support and ongoing contributions to the College that not only draw visibility to the University but also build on the quality reputation that emphasizes the value of the degrees achieved at CSULB.
Cheers,
Gerry Riposa, Dean
College of Liberal Arts
