RGRLL Scholarships

The 2014-15 Scholarship Opportunities: NO LONGER AVAILABLE (DEADLINE WAS MARCH 24, 2014)

  • ALL RGRLL LANGUAGES:
    • RGRLL Scholarship ($500)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. Major or Minor in one of the languages taught in the RGRLL Dept. (French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish) with a Financial Need.
        • 2. Applicant must provide proof of Financial Aid or comparable proof demonstrating a financial need.
        • 3. Minimum GPA 3.0
        • 4. Commitment to promoting language and culture via community or university activities.
    • Frank Fata Scholarship for Language Study Abroad ($600)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. Applicant must be majoring or minoring in a language taught in the RGRLL Dept. (French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish).
        • 2. Applicant must use scholarship for study abroad or German Summer School in Taos, New Mexico.
        • 3. Statement of Purpose Essay must discuss expectations and goals for study abroad.
        • 4. Minimum GPA 3.0.
        • 5. Applicant must be Upper Division Standing (Junior or Senior).
    • Two-week course at Instituto Cervantes in Valladolid, Spain ($700 Value*) – Valladolid2
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. Be an RGRLL major/minor
        • 2. Have a minimum 2.5 GPA
        • 3. Write a 500 word essay about why you want to study in Valladolid.

*Room/board ($300 USD/week) and airfare ($900-1100 USD) not included

  • FRENCH:
    • French for Spanish Speakers Study Abroad Scholarship ($1,000) - (Made available by the Office of Cultural Services of the French Embassy, New York)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. For Spanish-speaking students who wish to study in France.
        • 2. Applicant must have completed one year of French (101A and 101B equivalent).
        • 3. Statement of Purpose Essay must include reasons and goals for studying French and how the student’s ability to speak Spanish will have an impact on their experience in France.
        • 4. Minimum GPA 3.0
        • 5. Upper Division Standing (Junior or Senior)
  • GERMAN:
    • Amy Kimball Memorial Scholarship ($750)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. To study abroad in Germany, Switzerland or Austria or the German Summer School in Taos, New Mexico.
        • 2. Statement of Purpose Essay must include expectations and goals for study abroad.
        • 3. Minimum GPA 3.0
        • 4. Upper Division Standing (Junior or Senior) or Graduate Students (Priority given to Graduate Students)
    • Kristen J. Brown Scholarship ($600)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. Applicant must be a German Studies Major, Minor or Graduate Student
        • 2. Minimum GPA 2.8
    • Brunner-Brown Leadership Scholarship ($300)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. Applicant must be enrolled in German and the CSULB Leadership Academy.
        • 2. Applicant must have another Major in addition to being a German Studies Major or Minor and be upper division standing (Junior or Senior)
        • 3. To study abroad in Germany, Switzerland or Austria or the German Summer School in Taos, New Mexico.
        • 4. Minimum GPA 3.0
  • ITALIAN:
    • Sons of Italy Italian Renaissance Lodge Scholarship ($1000)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. For Italian Studies Majors or Minors to study abroad in Italy.
        • 2. Must commit to attending a Sons of Italy Renaissance Lodge meeting to report on trip and write a letter of thanks to donor.
        • 3. Minimum GPA 3.0
    • Beverly August Scholarship ($1000)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. For Italian Studies Majors, Minors or Single-Subject Credential (Italian) to study abroad in Italy.
        • 2. Must commit to writing a letter of thanks to donor.
        • 3. Minimum GPA 3.0
    • Kyera & Nicole Giannini Scholarship ($500 & $1,000)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. For Italian Studies Majors, Minors or Single-Subject Credential (Italian) to study abroad in Italy.
        • 2. Must commit to writing a letter of thanks to donor.
        • 3. Minimum GPA 3.0
    • Biafora Sparagna Italian Graduate Scholarship ($1500)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. For Italian Studies Graduate Students.
        • 2. Must commit to writing a letter of thanks to donor.
        • 3. Minimum GPA 3.0
    • Biafora Sparagna Italian Undergraduate Scholarship ($1000)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. For Italian Studies Majors or Minors to study abroad in Italy.
        • 2. Must commit to writing a letter of thanks to donor.
        • 3. Minimum GPA 3.0
  • RUSSIAN:
    • Russian Program Scholarship ($500)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. Applicant must participate in Russian Club activities or promote Russian culture in the community or on CSULB campus.
        • 2. Open to students enrolled in a Russian course or a declared Russian Minor.
        • 3. Priority will be given to students who will be studying abroad in Russia.
        • 4. Minimum GPA 3.0
        • 5. Upper Division Standing (Junior or Senior)
  • SPANISH:
    • Virginia Country Club Scholarship ($500)
      • Eligibility Requirements:
        • 1. Spanish Minors, Majors or Graduate Students to study abroad in Spain or Latin America.
        • 2. Applicant must provide proof of Financial Aid or comparable proof demonstrating a financial need.
        • 3. Minimum GPA 3.0
