| Welcome to the Spanish section of the Department of Romance, German, Russian Languages and Literatures at California State University, Long Beach. We offer the Minor, BA and MA degrees in Spanish, the Single-Subject Credential in Spanish as well as the Major in Translation and Interpretation Studies. For those interested in Business, we also have two specialized courses which prepare student for an International Examination. Our curriculum emphasizes general linguistics, heritage language instruction, literature and culture of Spanish America and Spain leading to a well-rounded education in the area of Hispanic Studies.
The advantages of studying Spanish and acquiring a solid knowledge of grammar, linguistics and the history and culture of the Hispanic world are manifold. With a degree in Spanish, our graduates have launched successful careers in teaching, social services, counseling, business, journalism, political science, criminal justice and art history, among many others.
The Spanish section boasts an exciting and challenging curriculum, distinguished faculty, state-of-the-art computer lab facilities, on-campus cultural events, and personalized attention. An additional feature is the study abroad programs that allow students to travel and study for a semester or a year in Latin America (Mexico, Chile, Argentina) or Spain (Madrid, Granada) and earn CSULB credits towards any of the degrees in Spanish.
