Italian Studies is a rapidly expanding program at CSULB. Headed by Professor Carlo Chiarenza, the George L. Graziadio Chair of Italian Studies, the program is an interdisciplinary venture designed to provide students with a rigorous grounding in comparative aspects of Italian life, language, and intellectual and cultural production. Spanning both past and present, the program seeks to prepare students for life-long learning, while making them competitive in the global marketplace and in various fields of graduate studies.
Besides traditional classes in Italian language and literature, the program will provide students with a broader and more diversified knowledge of Italian culture, Italian history (within and outside Europe), Italian social and political structures, Italian economy, and certainly, Italian literary, visual, and performing arts. Students involved in the program also investigate the impact of Italian culture upon various communities around the world.
