The German Summer School of New Mexico

The University of New Mexico in consortium with California State University, Long Beach

California Residents may enroll directly through CSULB

STEP 1:

Write to the German Summer School of New Mexico schule@umn.edu and to Professor High and tell both you intend to apply.

STEP 2: ENROLLMENT

CSULB Summer School enrollment (University College and Extension Services) will begin in late April or early May.

NON-CALIFORNIA (national and international) students enroll through the University of New Mexico.

CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS enroll through CSULB.

The national and international (UNM) students pay:
1) New MexicoTuition
2) UNM/Taos room and board and fees
3) Receive UNM credits

CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS pay:
1) CSULB Tuition
2) UNM/Taos room and board and fees
3) Receive CSULB credits

How to enroll: The courses are exclusively available through CSULB University College and Extension Services, located at 6300 State University Dr. Room 104, 90815. The building is located on lower CSULB campus and their registration windows are located on the west end of the building. UCES office is open M- F from 8am to 5pm, and registration can be reached at 562-985-5561.

The APPLICATION PROCESS is the same for both CSULB and UNM. Write to schule@umn.edu, and inform the University of New Mexico that you are applying and will be enrolling at CSULB. Go to the UNM website and download and fill out/send in the application materials to the University of New Mexico:

The German Summer School is a TOTAL IMMERSION program
designed to achieve near-native fluency in German.
+ Participate in Teacher Workshops to update your
teacher’s certification
+ Complete a M.A. degree in four to five summer sessions
+ Earn up to seven credits towards the B.A. or M.A. in
German Studies
+ Broad Academic Curriculum
+ Focus on Current Culture and Events
+ Small Classes

+ International Faculty
+ Earn Goethe Institute Language Proficiency
certification
+ Excellent preparation for a prolonged stay in a
German-speaking country

Prerequisites:
3 semesters of college German or the intermediate
proficiency in German. We also accept High School students.
