MINOR IN RUSSIAN (Code RGR_UM04)

The purpose of the Minor in Russian is to provide interested students with a focused program of studies in the Russian language.

Requirements:
Prerequisites: RUSS 101A, RUSS 101B

Twenty additional units of which 12 units must be taken in upper division course work: RUSS 201A, 201B, 310, 312, 314, 410, 428.

There has never been a better time to study the Russian Language and Russian than in this exciting era of “The Third Revolution.”  For the first time ever it is now conceivable to think about spending time in the homes of ordinary Russian citizens or to invite Russians to visit here in the United States.  As the relations between the United States and Russia continue to improve, students should no longer think of Russian Studies solely as a defensive tool i.e., for employment with the Agencies – CIA, NSA, etc.), but they also ought to regard such preparation as a potential instrument for promoting world peace through commerce (e.g., joint ventures) and communication (e.g., Peace Corps and teaching English in Russia).  With these diverse ends in mind, we proudly offer the Certificate in Russian and Eastern European Studies.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CERTIFICATE IN RUSSIAN AND EAST EUROPEAN STUDIES
(Code RGR_CT01):

• A Bachelor’s Degree with an approved Major
• A minimum of two semesters of a Slavic Language
• Eighteen (18) units selected from four of the disciplines listed below chosen in consultation with the student’s advisor. 
  NO MORE THAN SIX (6) UNITS OF ANY ONE DISCIPLINE SHALL APPLY TOWARD THE CERTIFICATE.
• Cumulative Grade Point average of 2.75 in all courses in the Student’s approved Certificate Program
