Grants Awarded

Tom Strybel (PI) and Kim Vu (co-PI) on the award of their second five-year $5M grant from NASA to establish a Center for Human Factors in Advanced Aviation Technologies (CHAAT). The grant’s purpose is to provide training to students at all levels and it has funds of $1M/ year for 5 years. Thus there is money available for traineeships for students at undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels.  (September 2009)

Dennis Fisher, Kevin Malotte, and F. King Alexander. “Research Infrastructure for Minority Institutions at California State University Long Beach.” The total amount is about $4.5 million. The official PI is King Alexander, but Kevin Malotte is the administrative director. Dennis is the core director for the faculty research core. (October 2009)

Honors and Awards

Jim Amirkhan received an honorary membership in the Golden Key Honor Society “based upon [his] 25 years of commitment to higher education and academic excellence as a professor…within the Department of Psychology at Cal-State Long Beach.”  Jim also received a “Top Ten” designation from Rate My Professors.Com.

Diane Lee was awarded a Visiting Scholar appointment, Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine.

Diane Lee’s publication with Nicola Lucas (cited above) was featured on the cover of NeuroReport.

Tom Strybel received the 2009-2010 Provost’s Impact of the Year in Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity.
