Perceived Organizational Support, Organizational Dependability, and Organizational Commitment
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship and dimensionality between Organizational Dependability, Supervisor Support, Organizational Support, and Organization Commitment constructs. Because Organizational Support and Organizational Dependability have similar operational definitions, it was hypothesized that they would form a single latent factor and supervisor support would form a second latent factor.
A second hypothesis predicted Organizational Dependability and Supervisor Support would form the single latent factor because both refer in their content to “supervisors” and “managers,” and Organizational Support would form the separate latent factor as it refers to the “organization,” a more global construct. The results of this analysis suggest that each of the scales measures a distinct psychological construct, and that these constructs are significantly related to each other. Moreover, these findings suggest that while respondents perceive supervisors, management, and the organization to be highly related to each other, they are psychologically distinguishable.
