Dr. Urizar’s research focuses on examining psychosocial, behavioral, and physiological factors associated with mental and physical health outcomes in low-income, ethnic minority, and other medically underserved populations. Specific areas of his work include promoting cardiovascular disease prevention and recovery, evaluating the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral interventions in hospital and community-based settings, examining the impact of stress (including the effects of cortisol) on various health outcomes and behaviors, and identifying risk factors associated with poor maternal and infant health outcomes.
