DEGREE REQUIREMENTS – POLITICAL SCIENCE (major code – POSCBA01)

REQUIRED COURSES:     2 Courses (6 units)

Political Science POSC 300 and POSC 100 or 391 are required.

  

CONCENTRATION REQUIREMENT:  3 Courses (9 units)

Take two upper-division courses and the Senior Seminar in the area of concentration you select from the list below.  Senior Seminars are POSC 409, 419, 429, 449, 469, or 489.

 

 BREADTH REQUIREMENT:  8 Courses (24 units)

A. 5 Courses (15 units) Take an additional upper-division course from each of the five areas outside your area of concentration.

 

(1) International Relations: 371, 376, 378, 481, 482, 484, 485, 486, 489.

(2) Comparative Politics: 353, 356, 357, 358, 359, 362, 363, 366, 367, 450, 455, 461I*, 463, 481, 469.

(3) Political Theory:  301, 303, 304, 306, 308, 401, 409.

(4) Public Law: 311, 312, 318, 412, 414, 417, 419.

(5) American Politics: 321, 322, 323♦, 326, 327, 420, 422, 423, 424, 428, 429.

(6) Public Policy & Administration: 328, 329, 430, 431, 432, 433, 442, 449.

B. Electives: 3 Courses (9 units) Shape your own program – take three or more political science  courses two of which may be lower division.  These may include internships, Interdisciplinary Courses (“I” courses), independent study, or any other political science courses.  A maximum of six units of internship may be used to fulfill degree requirements.

  

PLEASE NOTE: Except POSC 418, 447, 448, and 498, courses taken to count toward your Major cannot be taken for CR/NC grade.

 

  • Do not take POSC 391 if you have credit for POSC 100 at CSULB or if you have fulfilled the General Education category D2b (U.S. Constitution and Ideals).
  • POSC 323 meets the General Education Human Diversity requirement and applies toward major requirements.
  • POSC 388I, 395I, 461I, and 494I meet the General Education Interdisciplinary Course requirement and apply toward the major requirements.
