HEADS UP: These are the major requirements for students who declared political science before fall 2007 and who have not broken enrollment. New majors (and returning students) are under the new major.
REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS WHO DECLARED POLITICAL SCIENCE AS THEIR MAJOR PRIOR TO FALL 2007: Political science majors must complete a total of 39 units in the major. Every major must take: POSC 100: Introduction to American Government (or POSC 391, American Government): 3 units POSC 300: Scope and Methods of Political Science: 3 units In addition, every major must take one upper division course in each of the department's six subfields: 18 units International Relations: 3 units Comparative Politics: 3 units Political Theory: 3 units Public Law: 3 units American Government: 3 units Public Policy and Administration: 3 units
Students then "concentrate" in one of these subfields by taking two additional courses in it, including the Senior Seminar in that subfield (e.g., POSC 409, 419, 429, 449, 469, or 489): 6 units Finally, majors take an additional three courses (9 units). Any upper division course may be used to satisfy this requirement. A maximum of two lower division courses (6 units) may be used to satisfy this elective requirement. In addition, a
