THESE ARE THE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS WHO DECLARED POSC AS THEIR MAJOR IN FALL 2007 or SUBSEQUENTLY (read below for pre-fall 2007 requirements)
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS- POLITICAL SCIENCE (major code- POSCBA01)
Effective Fall 2007 39 Units Required in Major 120 Units Required for B.A.
Required Courses: 2 Courses (6 units) Political Science POSC 100 and POSC 300 are required
Concentration Requirement: 6 Courses (18 units) Take eighteen units in one of the three areas of concentration: (1) Law, Politics and Policy; or (2) Political Theory; or (3) Global Politics. Three lower-division units and fifteen upper-division units must be taken in the chosen area of concentration, including the senior seminar in that area.
Breadth Requirement: 5 Courses (15 Units) Fifteen units, no more than six of which may be from your area of concentration; no more than three of which may be lower-division. Must include at least three units of a practicum. BELOW ARE THE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS WHO DECLARED POSC AS THEIR MAJOR PRIOR TO FALL 2007 Political science majors must complete a total of 39 units in the major. Every major must take: POSC 100: Introduction to American Government (or POSC 391, American Government): 3 units POSC 300: Scope and Methods of Political Science: 3 units In addition, every major must take one upper division course in each of the department's six subfields: 18 units International Relations: 3 units Comparative Politics: 3 units Political Theory: 3 units Public Law: 3 units American Government: 3 units Public Policy and Administration: 3 units
Students then "concentrate" in one of these subfields by taking two additional courses in it, including the Senior Seminar in that subfield (e.g., POSC 409, 419, 429, 449, 469, or 489): 6 units Finally, majors take an additional three courses (9 units). Any upper division course may be used to satisfy this requirement. A maximum of two lower division courses (6 units) may be used to satisfy this elective requirement. In addition, a
