How To Apply
What requirements do I need to meet in order to be considered for admission?
This is a competetive program.The minimum prerequisites for consideration are:
(1) a bachelor’s degree with a major in political science or a bachelor’s degree with 24 upper division units in political science comparable to those required for a major in political science at CSULB;
(2) a 3.0 (“B”) GPA in political science courses taken as an undergraduate;
(3) three academic letters of recommendation;
(4) a statement of purpose of approximately 500 words. Include a discussion of your motivations and qualifications for entering the MA program.
Students who have not majored in political science and do not have 24 units of upper division political science work are encouraged to consult with the graduate coordinator for further advice.
Do I need to take the GRE in order to be considered for admission?
No.
How do I apply?
To apply, you must submit an application to both the university (available on-line at www.csumentor.edu) and the department. Click on this link for a copy of the department application form AND letter of recommendation form that must be filled out and submitted electronically to: Kristin.Taylor@csulb.edu. The prospective student should enter as degree objective Master of Arts in Political Science (code POSCMA01).

A graduate student in another program at CSULB who wishes to change his/her graduate degree objective to the M.A. in Political Science needs to reapply to CSULB and apply to the political science department as a political science graduate student.
When is the application deadline?
The deadline to apply for fall admission is February 15; all material must be postmarked by February 15 in order to be considered.
Do you accept applications for spring admission?
No. The department accepts applications for only the fall semester.
Do international applicants need to follow a special application procedure?
Yes. To apply, you must submit an application to both the university (available on-line at www.csumentor.edu) and the department.
University application: International graduate application (F-1/J-1 visa holders) must file a CSU mentor for the ‘CSU Long Beach International.’ Please contact the Center for International Education (http://www.ccpe.csulb.edu/international/) for further details on the specific requirements for international applicants. Please note that you must abide by the department of Political Science deadline (Feb. 15).
