Linguistics Lab
linguistic lab

The Linguistics Department has a research laboratory located on the fourth floor of the Psychology building (PSY 438G) with several computer stations, in both MAC and PC platforms, all with internet access. Four of these stations have state-of-the-art audio and video capture and editing capabilities. In addition, analog and digital audio and video recording and transcription equipment is available for graduate student use. Resources include: camcorders, MP3 recorders, tape recorders, scanners, photo-quality printing, radio microphones, laptop computers, video projectors, DVD and VHS players, recorders and rewinders. Students and faculty have access to software for statistical analysis, acoustic analysis and linguistic database analysis.

Internet Resources:

  • Many of the courses offered in our program require video recording as a method of data collection for homework assignments and term research papers. For students with little-to-no knowledge or experience with videography, we recomend reading Simple Videography 101 a good basic guideline for amateur videographers provided by Talkbank.Org.
