Undergraduate Linguistics programs
CSULB offers a B.A. and a minor in Linguistics.
All linguistics majors and minors study core topics such as morphology (word structure), syntax (grammar), phonology (sound structure), languages of the world, and language acquisition. In addition, they choose among elective topics such as sociolinguistics, language and culture, language and gender, psycholinguistics, semantics, the history of English, and others.
The minor in Linguistics is popular with students majoring in fields such as English, foreign languages, Anthropology, and Communicative Disorders. Some courses can double-count towards these majors and the Linguistics minor.
The linguistics major is useful in a variety of careers. Recent graduates have found work in areas such as translation, teaching English abroad, etc.
