Joni Ramirez has been a part-time public relations lecturer in CSULB's journalism department since 1998. She currently teaches public relations case studies and serves as advisor to CSULB's Bateman Team, which recently finished second in the national competition.
Outside of CSULB, Ramirez is a vice president in the Los Angeles Health practice of Edelman, a leading global public relations firm. She has nearly 15 years of award-winning agency and in-house public relations experience. Prior to joining Edelman, she was director of marketing and public relations for Miller Children's Hospital/Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, overseeing a $3 million internal and external marketing and communications program. Among her accomplishments at the hospitals were ensuring ongoing local and national media exposure, including CNN, NBC's Today Show and Discovery Health Channel; creating a year-long 100th anniversary "Century of Care" campaign; handling communications for a $151 million expansion project; overseeing the development of a new logo and advertising campaign; and revamping employee communications. Prior to going in-house, Joni spent eight years in agency public relations with clients in the biotech, medical device, health information, managed care, provider and pharmaceutical industries.
Joni graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in journalism/public relations from CSULB, where she is currently pursuing her master of business administration degree.
