John Canalis

Mr. Canalis works at the Long Beach Press-Telegram, where he writes TheCanalis Report, an in-depth column, and oversees political coverage. He previously served on the newspaper’s editorial board and as city and business editor, assistant city editor, Downey Bureau chief and county government reporter.

Before the Press-Telegram, Mr. Canalis worked as a freelancer for the LosAngeles Times, Long Beach and Southeast Los Angeles bureaus, and for aweekly publication published by the Orange County Register. He has also written for Westways magazine, the Daily Pilot and other publications.

Mr. Canalis has a journalism degree from California State University, Long Beach, and is on schedule to graduate with a Masters of Business Administration from Pepperdine University in summer 2009.

He lives in Long Beach, California, with his wife and daughter.
