Major areas of academic interest: press criticism, media law, mass media and society. Author of The Reluctant Reformation: On Criticizing the Press in America. Co-author of Intermedia, and has written chapters in other books, scholarly articles andxxs convention papers on the media and urban legends.

Reporter/editor experience with the Long Beach Independent, Long Beach Press-Telegram, San Diego Union, Washington Star and the Orange County Evening News. Reporter/newscaster with KXIC-AM, Iowa City, Iowa, and two years in educational public relations.

He has held tenure and advanced academic rank at CSULB, San Diego State University, the University of Maryland and Buffalo State College (SUNY).
