Barbara Sullivan is an adjunct lecturer in the Journalism Department at CSULB, teaching Written Communication for Public Relations (JOUR 374) and PR Management and Campaigns (JOUR 471).
Barbara is founder and president of Sullivan & Associates, which has been providing public relations services to biotech, medical device, health information technology, and pharmaceutical companies nationwide for nearly 15 years. She specializes in public relations strategy development, trade and consumer media relations, marketing and corporate communications, social media and crisis communication.
Barbara served on the board of directors of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, Southern California Chapter, for five years and currently provides pro bono public relations services to the organization. She also has provided public relations services to the Junior League of Orange County, California, and the Center Dance Alliance, a support group of the Orange County Performing Arts Center, where she held a board position. Sullivan also has served on the editorial boards of PRSA’s Health Academy Newsletter and QRC Advisor, formerly a leading publication for healthcare risk managers.
Barbara’s agency offers a PR internship program, and she has employed many CSULB students as interns over the years—hiring several as full-time employees. As a graduate of CSULB’s Journalism/PR program, a lecturer in the department and an employer, Barbara brings to her students a unique perspective and valuable insights that can help them prepare for a successful career in the field of public relations.
