Christopher Burnett

Christopher Burnett is an assistant professor of journalism. He received his Ph.D. in political science from Colorado State University in 2003. His specialties are environmental reporting, political reporting, media law and media history. He has worked as a congressional and U.S. Supreme Court reporter, in political and university public relations, and as an editor and reporter in Colorado, Ohio and New York.

He is a co-author of Newswriter's Handbook, Second Edition (2006), and has published scholarly articles in the fields of media history and environmental politics.

His research is focused on the relationship between politics and the media, especially as this relates to citizen involvement in the policy process.

He is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, a board member of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association, and a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists. His dissertation was on wildlife ballot initiatives and policy change at the state level.

He has three sons, Drew, Brett and Kirk, and in his spare time enjoys traveling and the outdoors.
