Heidi Nye

Since her student days in the journalism department at Cal State Long Beach, Heidi Nye has worked in print journalism, primarily in
magazines but also with newspapers and newsletters. Her trade magazine experience includes publications in the healthcare, transportation, construction, firefighting, engineering, leisure and facilities management industries. She has served as the editor-in-chief of six magazines and as the managing editor or associate editor of three. She has also worked as a writer and/or editor of several consumer magazines, including Orange Coast, Long Beach Magazine and Natural Health.

Nye has public relations, marketing and advertising experience as well, having served as editor-writer of a dozen corporate and foundation newsletters and having written brochures, product launches, point-of-purchase materials, and Web copy for corporations and nonprofits.

For more than a decade, Nye was the English editor for a
Taiwanese-based nonprofit that published books and journals aimed at
introducing traditional Chinese medicine to an American audience. On a
contract basis, Nye has also worked with more than a dozen authors to
polish their book manuscripts for publication. Nye's poetry and short stories have appeared in more than four dozen venues, including Australian and German magazines.

An adjunct professor at Cal State Long Beach since 1987, Nye has also
taught journalism courses at Cal State Fullerton, public relations
courses at Long Beach City College, and philosophy and writing courses
at the University of Phoenix. Nye holds a bachelor's degree in
journalism and another in philosophy from Cal State Long Beach and a
master's degree in communications from Cal State Fullerton.

In her free time, Nye enjoys visiting art museums and galleries,
camping in remote locales, discussing current events, drinking good
coffee, listening to National Public Radio and Pacifica Radio, reading
all kinds of books (she's been in a monthly book-discussion group for
more than two decades), photographing natural beauty and exploring
quirky parts of the planet. She has not owned a TV for almost two
decades.

She has one son, Aaron, a graduate of UCLA with a history major and an
art history minor.
