Lisa Cox

Lisa Cox teaches J321 Introduction to Broadcast Writing. She joined the journalism department faculty at CSULB in August 2007.

Lisa began her journalism career more then 18-years ago as a News Apprentice at KABC-TV, Los Angeles, after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in Spanish.

After heading east and earning her master's degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, Lisa held several positions as an executive producer, desk editor, associate producer, writer, and producer at CBS News and NBC News in New York, E! News, WNBC-TV, KCBS/KCAL and several other local stations in Miami, Boston, Washington, D.C., and Birmingham, Alabama.

She has earned several Edward R. Murrow and NABJ awards, an emmy nomination, and an Associated Press award. Currently, Lisa is a news producer at the Tribune-owned Los Angeles flagship station, KTLA-5, the CW, where she produces the Prime News Weekend 10p broadcast.

She is also president of the Black Journalists Association of Southern California, the Los Angeles affiliate chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.


Lisa is a native of Los Angeles, and attended University High School. She is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
