|CSULB NAHJ HOLDINGS FIRST MIXER OF THE YEAR
The CSULB chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) will be hosting its first mixer of 2014, with the topic of “Looking for Internships?” The event will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in SSPA-029C at 6 p.m., and will include industry professionals from PBS, La opinion, movie producers and journalists. The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at CSULB invites invites students, faculty, staff, alumni and the University community to “The State of Free Speech on Campus,” a lecture by Greg Lukianoff, president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. The author of Unlearning Liberty: Campus Censorship and the End of American Debate, he has published numerous news article in prominent newspapers and has testified before the U.S. Senate about free speech.

The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at Cal State Long Beach is proud to host Laura Castañeda, Emmy Award-winning writer, producer and journalist and Chair of the Department of Communications at San Diego City College as part of its Guest Speaker Series.Prof. Castañeda will be talking about “Reporting on the United States-Mexico Border and Immigration Issues.” The event will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Anatol Center (AS-119) on campus. Journalism & Mass Communication Assistant Professor John Shrader has started a new radio show, “Watch the Media,” on Kbeach, the university’s radio station. Shrader, who also serves an as adviser for the station, will be examining in the show “the issues, trends, topics of media,” including commentary, critiques, and interviews.
