CSULB’s National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) – EVENTS

The following events are being organized by NAHJ:

  • NAHJ ORGANIZES PANEL ON “HISPANICS IN THE MEDIA” – MARCH 17, 2010, AT THE STUDENT UNION BALLROOMS

Join NAHJ on Wednesday, March 17, for the first ever panel on “Hispanics in the Media” taking place at the USU Ballrooms from 12pm to 2pm.  Speakers include Telemundo’s Ruben Luengas, CBS’ Marty Guerrero and from the  CSU Chancellors Office, Clara Potes.

Speakers will be talking about their own experiences being a Hispanic in the U.S. working either for a Hispanic company, or  for an Anglo company.  A great chance to have an insider’s view on the advantages and disadvantages of being a Hispanic in the country when it comes to the media.

The event will also include a Q&A session with speakers, and refreshments will be provided.

For more information, contact NAHJ’s president, Jocelyn Gomez, at nahjcsulb@gmail.com

  • JOIN NAHJ AT A LIVE TAPING OF “LOPEZ TONIGHT” ON APRIL 6, 2010

Want to watch a live taping of George Lopez’s hit show “Lopez Tonight”?  NAHJ is bringing a group of students to Burbank on April 6, 2010, to watch the show live on studio.

(Click here to download the official flier for the event)

And, because we’re going as a journalism college group, the Lopez Tonight team is throwing us a couple bonuses: we’ll have a Q&A session with the publicist for the show, where we can ask questions on how the show actually works,

And, we’ll get to visit the stage and take pictures of it.

This event is limited to a small number of students, so, if you want to join us, let us know ASAP.  Priority will be given to Paying NAHJ members, followed by non-Paying members (those who have attended at least two meetings this academic year), then journalism majors and, finally, non-journalism majors.

To secure your place, please contact NAHJ President Jocelyn Gomez at nahjcsulb@gmail.com.  There is a $10 REFUNDABLE deposit, to be returned on the day of the taping.  The deposit will be given back to you in Burbank on April 6.

  • FUNDRAISING PIZZA NIGHT AT SHAKEY’S, DEC. 3, FROM 7pm-9pm

Come and join us at Shakey’s Pizza Parlor in Carson for a fundraising pizza night to benefit the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

The pizza party will help raise money for the group, so bring your family and friends.  While we’re there, Shakey’s will donate 25% of the menu price to any food purchase we make to support our group on December 3, from 7pm-9pm.

If you have a hectic schedule, you can still help because take-out orders count, too.  Call ahead, and you can pick up dinner on the fly!  Don’t forget the date and bring your appetite; we’ll bring the fun!

Shakey’s located at:

665 E. Del Amo Blvd.,

Carson, CA 90746
