On June 25th, 2007, the Center hosted a presentation by Dr. Minati Panda, Associate Professor of Social Pyschology of Education at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. A visiting Fulbright fellow at University of California, San Diego, Dr. Panda's current research involves documenting and analyzing various mathematical experiences of the Saoras (an indigenous community from southern Orissa in India) from a cultural psychological perspective. Dr. Panda's presentation at CSULB was titled As-if Discourse, Intersubjectivity and Mathematics Learning in Saora Schools: Swapping Between Two Discourse Foci. The 2007 Uka and Solanki lecture featured Suketu Mehta, author of Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found, winner of the Kiriyama Prize, and a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize.
