EssingtonAmy Essington, Ph.D.

Amy Essington research focuses on the racial desegregation of sport, particularly professional baseball. Her dissertation, “Segregation, Race, and Baseball: The Desegregation of the Pacific Coast League, 1948-1952,” focused on race and the Pacific Coast League, the minor baseball league on the West Coast from 1903-1957. Dr. Essington has also published and presented on topics including Effa Manley, the Negro Leagues, Major League Baseball, and the desegregation of professional football, basketball, and hockey.
