

The Xiaolan Bao award is given in honor of Professor Bao, a distinguished historian of Chinese and Chinese-American women. It is awarded for outstanding work on the history of Asian or Asian-American women.
Given to a continuing graduate student in History, in recognition of outstanding academic achievement. Outstanding achievement may be demonstrated through letters of support, academic record, sample written work.
Awarded to an advanced BA/credential student, or a MA student, in History who has a strong interest in pedagogy and teaching history. The successful candidate for this award will serve as the student intern to the Editorial Board of THE HISTORY TEACHER for one year.
Awarded to a history major with a concentration in U.S. history, and who, on the basis of a promising record in this department, plans to go on to graduate school.
Presented to a student who has demonstrated intellectual qualities required of outstanding History students and whose student career includes service to the History Department. Intellectual qualities and service may be demonstrated through letters of support, academic record, sample written work, and service to the department.
Given to a continuing Graduate or Undergraduate student in recognition of outstanding achievement in the field of California History. Outstanding achievement may be demonstrated through a sample of written work in California history.
Awarded to an outstanding History major of sophomore or junior standing to enable the recipient to complete the B.A. in the History Department. Outstanding achievement may be demonstrated through academic record in history course work. Writing sample is often helpful.
Award for best 499 portfolio assembled by History 499 students. Self-nominations and faculty nominations are welcome. Submission of 499 portfolio is required.
Awarded for best historical essay by a graduate or undergraduate student.
Best 301 portfolio assembled by History 301 students. Self-nominations and faculty nominations are welcome. Submission of 301 portfolio is required.
Given periodically in recognition of outstanding student work in Holocaust-related studies. Outstanding achievement may be demonstrated through a writing sample.
IMPORTANT:
Turn your application in with appropriate material, such as application form, personal statement, writing sample, letters of support, and other items that meet the criteria of each award to the
History Department Office no later than Thursday March 27, 2008.
Nomination by faculty is not necessary, but letters of support may be helpful.
You may also qualify for other non-departmental awards such as the SSCT Benson Memorial Scholarship ($2.500), the Glenn and Dorothy Dumke Fellowship ($1,100) and the Nathaniel R. and Valerie Dumont Scholarship ($4,000).
