SPRING 2012 - ADVISING (beginning the week of classes, Tuesday 1/24 to 5/10)

Tuesdays: 4:00-5:15, scheduled appointments, 15 minute sessions, sign up online, *no new major declaration during these sessions

NOTE: Students who have not yet declared a major will not be seen on Tuesdays.

Wednesdays: 1:30-3:45, walk in appointments, 15 minute increments, sign up in HDEV office starting at 1:00pm.

NOTE: on WEDNESDAYS: February 8th; March 14th; April 11th and May 9th the walk in appt hours will be 2:00-3:00pm (due to Dept. Mtg.).

Thursdays: 3:30, New MAJOR Session, first come first serve basis- maximum 6 students, sign up in HDEV office starting at 3:00pm.

To book an appointment on our on-line system: Select: ADVISING (on the left hand side) - Press "CLICK HERE" (To schedule an advising appointment online, click here). Select a time and day (where ever you see circles). Press the gray box NEXT to go to the following week.

Remember be on time because Dr. Rauscher’s appointments are scheduled back to back and will not be able to accommodate late appts.

For SPRING 2012 all sections of HDEV 320 require a PERMIT. At this time ALL HDEV 320 sections are FULL. We can be placed on the Dept. waiting list. If we can not accommodate you in a section, you can petition the course the first day of class.

Students that acquired department consent will be the only ones allowed in the class. We will drop students that do not complete the pre-requisites before the semester starts. "click here" for flier.

Come in the HDEV office PSY-205 or send Wendy an email with ID# and sections # of seminar and activity of preference (with same instructor). If there is still room available Wendy will issue a permit and send you an email confirmation.

  • Don't wait till the last minute to obtain a permit. Classes are filling up fast. Keep in mind it is a first come, first served basis.

Peace & Social Justice Studies comes to HDEV

As of Spring 2009, the Peace & Social Justice Studies Certificate Program is now housed in the Department of Human Development. The program’s director, Dr. Judith Stevenson, is currently in the process of creating a new identity for the program and updating it into a Minor Degree.  The name of the program has been changed to reflect its new mission to study peacemaking through the lens of social and environmental justice.  The program will span multiple disciplines and colleges, including liberal arts, natural sciences, health and human services, the arts, and education. HDEV & Girls on the Run of LA County

Girls on the Run of Los Angeles County (GOTR) is a positive youth development program that promotes physical activity and holistic well-being through an interactive curriculum and running program.  As Vice-Chair of of the Board of GOTR LA, Dr. Lauren Rauscher facilitates the collaboration between CSULB students and this organization. The Department of Human Development issues a statement about the work of Kevin MacDonald

Over the academic year 2008-2009, the Department, along with colleagues across the College of Liberal Arts, debated and critiqued the controversial work of Kevin MacDonald. The culmination of these discussions resulted in the Department issuing a public statement about his work to clarify our position--for students, other faculty on campus and the public. HDEV 490: Special Topics-Race, Gender and Health (3) Class# 8833 T/Th 2-3:15pm with Dr. Rauscher. HDEV 490 can count two ways for HDEV majors either for a SOCIOCULTURAL FOUNDTION AREA (FND-SOC) course or substitution of HDEV 402 or 403. See details and Pre-Requisites under "Announcements"
