Human Development Student Association (HDSA)

   

The Human Development Student Association (HDSA) is the official student organization of the Department of Human Development focused on professional development, scholarly activity and community service. The goal of HDSA is to provide students with meaningful experiences outside the classroom to enhance their education. HDSA activities are geared toward understanding lifespan development from an interdisciplinary perspective.

All Human Development majors, minors, and pre-Human Development majors are encouraged to join HDSA.  There is no minimum class standing or grade point average required.  To join HDSA all you need to do is complete an enrollment form located in the Human Development main office (PSY 205).

HDSA events are posted outside the Human Development main office (PSY 205).

Recent Activities:

• Sponsored "Angels in the Dust", a film about a South African Orphanage, and raised money for the orphans.
• Sponsored a Red Cross blood drive
• Collected art supplies for seniors living at Carmelitos, a government subsidized housing development in North Long Beach
• Walked in the Long Beach AIDS walk
• Held a toiletries drive for the homeless
• Made crafts with children at a local hospital safety fair
• Adopted a family for the holidays through the Salvation Army
• Organized an alumni luau
• Held graduate school workshops
• Brought internationally known scholars to campus for talks
• Conducted student research and presented findings at national conferences
