I really think this class brought together everything I have learned these past 4 years in college and has really made me excited about sharing and using what I have learned in my career as a teacher.
Most importantly, HDEV 470 allows me to have a hands-on experience in my field of interest. This is good because it helps many students like my self decide whether that’s what they really want to do in the future.
I learned from other’s people’s practicum settings what I would and would NOT like to do for a career.
In taking this course I enjoyed learning about where others were doing their practicum hours. It amazes me the diversity in job choices this major allows for.
I enjoyed my practicum very much. If my future career is anything like my practicum experience, I am ready for it! Though there were days that I struggled more than others, I will take with me the memories of the amazing people I met throughout the semester. They made it all matter for me. I worked for them and they really appreciated it.
The format of the class was fascinating. We always sat in a circle which I think sparked more conversation. I thought we would just end up talking about what people were doing at their individual sites, but it was much more than that. We participated in Human Development activities--I have been more active in school activities this semester than my entire college career. I even made new friends.
The articles definitely broadened my perspectives and made me see things differently---they make me want to better myself and my community.
Through this class I have become more aware of issues in the world that can have an effect on me and sometime people around me. I now understand better that is very important to "pay attention."
It’s not what I learned in this class, it is HOW I learned. What I enjoyed most about this class is that there was so much real world experience.
Because of HDEV 470 I have started to look at thins presented in readings as well as other classes in a more analytical way. I have been able to look at the "big picture" and think critically about how it affects the community around me.
This class has actually helped me explain my major better to those who do not know what it is.
Dr. Roberts encouraged student interaction; our opinions and voices were encouraged—really encouraged, not just asked for.
HDEV 470 expanded my interest in local issues. Before this class I rarely read the articles in the Sunday newspaper. Having to read the paper for this class made me more aware of the issues that are happening. There is so much going on in this world and reading the newspaper is a good source of information. I will continue to read the newspaper to myself informed about current news.
I have learned so much more in HDEV 470 than I had ever planned on learning. I honestly thought this class was just about finding an internship and stepping foot into the workplace. Through our reserve readings and the LA Times articles, this class has opened my eyes to human development issues all over the world. I am walking away from this class with the desire to have an overall better understanding of society and the world.
I learned how to become an activist in this class---I learned that making small steps to solve an issues is better than not doing anything at all.
It wasn’t till this class that I found my passion for people and community. It was through my internship that I knew I wanted to do something to change the world and help better society. I found the importance of giving people the chance to live a better life.
