or
Course Description: This course investigates critical issues of health, the body, and systematic inequality by gender, race, and ethnicity across the lifespan, primarily within the U.S. context. It explores a variety of current health issues and debates, including how patterns of physical and mental health are structured by major axes of inequality and privilege; subjective experiences of health and illness; and access and quality of health care. We will draw from multiple theoretical approaches, focusing on critical theories such as sociological theories of stratification, feminist biological approaches to sex and gender, critical race and feminist theories of power, inequality, and the body; psychological approaches to stress and coping; and social psychological theories of stereotyping and prejudice.
