HDEV 300I: Death and Dying in South Africa-2013 {May 28-June 19}

This 3 week course will compare the death, dying and bereavement experiences of various cultural groups within South Africa to those in the United States.  Students will work in township projects with orphaned and vulnerable children, hear lectures from hospice and other community workers, and take fieldtrips to sites that provide a context for death and dying in South Africa, including: Robben Island, District 6, The Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill.  At the end of the course, a safari in Kruger Park will provide time for reflection on class experiences.
