This morning I went to the grid with Jake to take spectral readings of native plant species. I learned how to set up, calibrate, and take the spectral reading of plants. I found native plants that were bigger so I can pick them out easier in the high resolution imagery. Today we sampled 6 plants; we took 5 samples of each plant so we can find an average. Lida helped us out and showed us the grid system and gave us suggestions of plants we should take spectral readings of. I want to take a couple more samples tomorrow to build a larger spectral library of native plants.

In the afternoon we went to the harbor to paddle an outrigger canoe. Ted and John knew the local paddling team; they let us use one of their canoe to paddle around.  The water was very calm which made it easy for us to learn to paddle.

We only have 4 more days left on Kauai, I need to make sure I get all my data so I can do all my analysis while in Long Beach.

I don’t want to leave…
