We woke up at 4:20 today to head to a nearby harbor. After loading up two zodiac boats full of gear and people we took off as the sun was rising. We rode along the coast watching all of the cliffs pass us. Our destination, Nu’alolo Kai. This state park is a beautiful park, many films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, and King Kong were filmed here. It has very tall volcanic cliffs with green vegetation. On Nu’alolo Kai Burney took us on a tour of the giant Heaiu and the native plant species he started several years ago. He is trying to restore Nu’alolo Kai with plant species found during the archaeological digs. The goats here prevent most native plants to grow here.
I helped out setting up and clearing an area where we used the GPR, this device sends radar into the ground to look for any disturbances beneath the ground.
Once we ate lunch we relaxed on the sand and went snorkeling. Most of the reef is dead, but there were still some fish and I saw my first sea turtle.
Overall a great beautiful day with good vibes and great people
