With the support of the President's Commission on the Status of Women, the Department of Geography is pleased to present:

Dr Jackson Katz:"Geographies of Diversity: Jackson Katz on Masculinities and Violence"

Date/Time/Place: Monday, November 28 at 3:30 PM, LH-150 — all welcome! Please advise students to arrive early as this promises to be a full house.

Educator, author, filmmaker, and social theorist,Dr. Jackson Katz is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in gender violence prevention education in schools, the sports culture and the military, as well asforhis pioneering work in critical media literacy.Katz holds degrees from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and EducationfromUCLA. Katz also writes a blog for the Huffington Post:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jackson-katz.

*Geography Awareness Week, November 14-17, 2011!

October 2011: The second speaker of the *Department of Geography Speaker Series, Fall 2011* is Dr. Lori Baralt. In collaboration with the Department of Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Women's Resource Center the film “No Family History,” will be screened which will be followed by a discussion led by Dr. Baralt in which risks for cancer are discussed.The event will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 from 5pm-7pm in LH-151.

September 2011: The first speaker of the *Department of Geography Speaker Series, Fall 2011* is Professor Laura Pulido, USC. Dr. Pulido's talk is titled "Towards a Popular Geography: A People's Guide to LA."

August 2011: We wish the best of luck to Dr. Vincent Del Casino in his new position as Associate Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Geography at the University of Arizona. And we give a warm welcome to Dr. Paul Laris in his new role as Department Chair.

June 2011: Congratulations are in order to Angela Wranic, who has just crossed the threshold to ABD status!
