He earned his B.A. (Sociology) and M.A. (Asian Studies) degrees from the University of Oregon in 1971 and 1973 respectively, and his Ph.D. in Geography in 1980. His dissertation, titled, “Social Ecology in a Contemporary Chinese City: Tiachung, Taiwan” utilized some of the most cutting edge methodological approaches in the field of Geography. After completing his degree at UCLA, Dr. Gossette worked as a professor at Northwestern University and the University of Delaware before joining the Department of Geography at California State University, Long Beach. Dr. Gossette is best known at CSULB for his contributions to the Department’s growing geospatial technologies courses and research. Through numerous Contracts and Grants with local private and public agencies, he created internships in applied research employing scores of undergraduate and graduate students.
To date, we have raised more than half ($12,500) of our goal of $25,000. Once endowed, the award will sponsor student research costs associated with their master’s graduate thesis project.
