The Writer’s Resource Lab is probably one of (if not the) busiest student services on campus. Getting an appointment can be difficult if you’ve not had time to schedule in advance. Sometimes the best way to get in to see a tutor is by a drop-in appointment. There are no guarantees that you’ll actually be able to see a tutor if you drop in, but we often have last minute cancellations and students who don’t show up for their appointments throughout the day. When this happens, if you are in the WRL waiting, you can take the available appointment.
To wait for a drop-in appointment, you should stop by the lab on the day and time that’s most convenient for you. We recommend that you have a block of two (2) hours to spare, and you’ll wait to see if an appointment cancels or does not show. We have tables where you can study while you wait and places to plug in laptop computers if you need them, so it’s not a total waste of your time. Again, the only problem with drop-ins is that there are no guarantees that you will be tutored. You’ll be gambling on another student not showing up or cancelling at the last minute; it does happen regularly though.
