Minors offer minimal exposure to a field useful to life or a specific career, usually supplementing degrees in other disciplines. Check with an advisor in the Department of English to learn more about the English minor.
The minor in English (Creative Writing) requires at least 21 units, including: ENGL 184; three units from ENGL 205 or 206; three units from ENGL 405 or 406; three units from ENGL 385 or 386; and at least eight units of electives from ENGL 405, 406, 407, 459, 467A,B, 474, 475, 476, 477A,B, 499. (Note: ENGL 405 and 406 may be repeated for credit to a maximum of six units by consent of instructor.)
The minor in English (Literature) requires at least 21 units, including: ENGL 184; eight units from ENGL 250A,B, 3780A,B; and at least nine units of electives from ENGL 363, 385, 386, 390, 398, and/or any courses from the 450, 460, or 470 series.
The minor in English (Language and Composition) requires at least 20 units, including: ENGL 310, 497, LING 325, 420, 421, and 428. Also recommended: three units from ENGL (or LING) 423 or 426.
The minor in English (Special Emphasis) requires at least 21 units, including ENGL 184. The rest of the program is developed in consultation with a faculty advisor and approved and supervised in the same manner as the Special Emphasis Option.
