One of the largest departments in the CSU, English at CSULB has over one hundred full-time and part-time instructors. English faculty are experts in their fields, actively involved in teaching, scholarship, creative activities, and publishing in linguistics, literacy, literature, and creative and technical writing. Class sizes are relatively small and one-to-one conferencing with students is widely practiced.
The Department offers a wide range of courses: basic and advanced writing classes; surveys of literature; studies of particular genres, eras, themes, and authors; and advanced classes in rhetoric and literary theory. Success in these courses develops three invaluable skills--analytical reading, effective writing, and critical thinking about human interaction, gained through study of the best writing produced in the English language.

We have a new English Events listserv! We will only send out announcements pertaining to events, such as author readings, to this email list (no deadline reminders and whatnot). If you would like to subscribe, send a blank email message to english-events-subscribe@csulb.edu. Then check your email (and your junk email folder too) as you will have to reply back to confirm subscription. Everyone is welcome and you do not need to be a student at CSULB to belong to this listserv.
Check back for Fall 2009 events.
