Lynwood

Description: Carved out of a part of Don Antonio Lugo’s 30,000-acre Rancho San Antonio, Lynwood reeled when the gold rush hit the area in 1848-49. C.H. Sessions bought 400 acres of land in the Lynwood area in 1902 to build a dairy, naming the area Lynne Wood, after the woman who would become his wife. The city was incorporated in 1921 and, according to city officials, Lynwood’s progress has been in forward motion ever since.

Today, more than eight decades later, Lynwood’s challenges have been converted into opportunities for a new and improved infrastructure, schools, housing, commercial development and commercial rehabilitation. Plaza Mexico, a 36-acre commercial development, is becoming a cultural landmark. The addition of Atlantic Crossing has brought more retail to the city’s northeast area. Lynwood embraces its diversity and has been recognized nationally for its efforts to create a more racially harmonious community.
