ARTESIA
Description: Incorporated on May 29, 1959, the City of Artesia was founded in an area of rich soil above a system of artesian wells. Located about 20 miles southeast of Los Angeles, the city became home to farm families. The first chief crop was grapes, although dairy herds were moved into the area in the 1920s.
Dutch and Portuguese immigrants came to Artesia in the early 1900s, beginning one of the largest milking industry areas in Southern California. Today, the city’s population continues to increase.The multicultural nature of the community is reflected in the small shops and eateries. The city continues its business development and beautification projects.
