Comm Tutoring Center Information
What is the COMM Tutoring Center?
The COMM Tutoring Center is located in AS-351. It provides FREE academic support, coaching, and mentorship during the course of the fall and spring semesters for a variety of COMM classes, primarily focusing on, but not limited to, the core COMM classes (e.g., COMM 200, 300, 301, 306, 307, 309, 330). Our experienced tutors assist students with library research for papers, preparation (and practice) for presentations, assistance with editing papers, brainstorming topics for projects, preparation for tests/quizzes, advice on writing, assistance with MLA and APA formatting, help with constructing outlines, assistance with statistical calculations, and reviewing instructions for papers and projects. The COMM Tutoring Center is FREE to any student enrolled in a COMM class and no appointment is necessary! Please see the Tutoring Center office hour schedule to find a time that best fits your availability – we look forward to assisting you!
How can I become a Peer Mentor for the COMM Tutoring Center?
For individuals interested in serving as a Peer Mentor for the COMM Tutoring Center in an upcoming semester, please complete the COMM Tutoring Center application form and submit it by the deadline noted. Peer Mentors are chosen from a pool of applicants and selected individuals are invited to enroll in COMM 495: Service Learning Internship. If you have any questions about what Peer Mentors do or whether or not the Service Learning Internship course would be a good fit for you, please contact the Faculty Advisor for the COMM Tutoring Center, Dr. Stacy Young (sly.young@csulb.edu) or 562-985-1360 for more information. Aside from being a great resume builder, it is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow COMM students (as well as other faculty). Because Peer Mentors serve as a representative of the department, only a very limited number of top-notch students, hand-selected by our faculty are offered this unique opportunity. I hope you will consider it! Thank you.
