Research Interests: Issues of race, class, gender and sexuality amongst African-Americans.
Research sites/internships: In the Meantime Men’s Group (Fall 2007), an African-American gay male organization. For my research project I focused on the inter-office relationships between the staff, which were all gay or bisexual African-American men, and the Founder and Executive Director. ULOAH- United Lesbians of African Heritage (Summer 2008). While working with ULOAH I designed and conducted a mini-ethnographic study of African-American lesbians living in and around the Los Angeles area. The study explored issues and experiences of the participants in areas like gender roles, religion and spirituality, relationships, support systems, mental health, family and societal perceptions.

Research sites/internships: During my senior year as an undergraduate student I was able to get a research grant to make an ethnography called Diasporic College Communities: a Hawai'i Club Ethnography. I studied Hawaiian student clubs and their members at several universities along west coast including Santa Clara University, University of Southern California, and the University of Oregon. I was interested in learning about culture shock, social structures, cultural activities, and other aspects of life for students from Hawai'i studying on the mainland.
