As I have written about in my own personal blog (www.evolutionbeach.org), this spring’s CLA Student Research Showcase was quite successful and demonstrate the kind of dynamic student research that is taking place within the College. I was very pleased to see that we had nearly 80 posters from departments including Archaeology, Anthropology, Sociology, Human Development, Political Science and Linguistics. Next year should be quite spectacular (and we are going to need a lot more poster boards!).
Archaeology graduate student Jimmy Daniels has kindly posted his photos from the poster session. You can view these at http://www.flickr.com/photos/8765457@N06/ I know Pat Zaid took more photos as well – perhaps she can post them up to flickr as well.
Next year is going to be much larger and planning will be much earlier. I encourage individuals to consider integrating their course assignments to lead to the 2008 CLA Student Research Showcase. I’d be happy to talk with anyone who is interested in participating or wants to find out how this can be easily done.

I have established a blog that is dedicated to our activities on Easter Island. You can see this blog at: http://www.rapanuifieldschool.org
Over the summer, students will blog about their experiences and provide photos and notes related to the field school (which is run by the University of Hawai’i this year). I am taking 4 CSULB students to the field to work on the island. So check back regularly to the blog to see what unfolds as we travel out to the remote Pacific!
Welcome to the CSULB College of Liberal Arts blog. The goal of this blog is to provide a place for the CLA faculty, staff and student community to report on research, teaching and activities that are taking place within the College of Liberal Arts. If you are interested in participating please contact Carl Lipo (clipo@csulb.edu or 5-2393), the nominal administrator of this blog.
This blog is experimental in that we want to see if this venue proves to be useful and productive. It is also dynamic in that we can make changes as users see fit to better suit our goals. If you have any ideas as to how to improve this blog, please let me know (or even post them here).
Here’s looking forward to a new academic year!
