Campus Involvement
Event Requirement
In their first semester at CSULB, Learning Alliance students are required to attend three on-campus events. This helps students build connections to the campus, as well as promotes an awareness of the huge variety of sports, visual and performing arts, and other events happening on campus. Several events that can be used to satisfy this requirement are hosted by the Learning Alliance, such as Games Day, where our freshmen have the opportunity to get to know one another better and bond with instructors and peer mentors outside of a classroom setting.
Campus Community Involvement
Optional campus volunteer opportunities are posted in the Learning Alliance study lounge. Being involved at CSULB helps students feel more a part of the campus, and fosters active, conscientious members of the campus community.
Take-A-Breaks
Take-A-Breaks allow our students, faculty and staff a chance to connect and discuss timely topics. These events take place each semester around the time of mid-terms, giving Learning Alliance students a chance to "take a break" from their studies, relax, and refresh. This is a great opportunity to see old friends and make new ones!
The Value of Involvement - Student Testimonials
- I was able to see a different side to CSULB and take some time to learn about the campus. Helping high school students see the possibilities of what could happen when attending CSULB, or any college, was the best part of being a campus tour guide.
- It was a great experience to be able to help someone else. It was pretty cool to see so many different people helping out and working together. Everyone did their part to work together efficiently; we all listened to each other's input.
- Working at the Japanese Garden Cleanup was a great experience. It gave me an opportunity to give back to Cal State Long Beach and also meet some more fellow Learning Alliance students.
- I actually got to talk to people that were in my class but I had never before talked to. I got to meet people that I would not have otherwise met.
- I was able to reconnect with [Learning Alliance] members I hadn't seen in a long time. Also, I felt like I really belonged to the school, since I helped set up things for Homecoming.
